Pet Portraits - Commission a portrait of your much loved pets

About me

Kathy O Regan

Hi, I’m Kathy from Burgess Hill, West Sussex and a Pet and Wildlife Portrait artist.

I fell back into my love of art during lockdown and am now excited that a wonderful hobby has become my job. I love being able to create happiness through my artwork.

I specialise in pastels and use the highest quality grade materials to ensure your portrait keeps your memories alive on paper. Each bespoke piece takes hours of dedicated work, resulting in a truly unique and special artwork of your pet.

Photo guide

The photo reference is really important, the better the photo the better the outcome of your drawing.

I zoom into all the little fur details and textures to ensure I capture your pet features. Camera phones are generally really good for taking photos but for best results, please do not crop but keep at its natural resolution.

Here are some tips to get the best photos:

  • Lighting: Take your photo in natural lighting, ideally in a shaded area or inside near a window. Try and have the light behind you but facing the animal. Please note that artificial lighting can change the colours of fur.

  • Angle: Try and take your picture at eye level. Get close enough to fill the frame of your camera without zooming in. My portraits focus on facial details, once you have taken the picture, zoom in to check the photo is clear and no blurry sections. Try some different shots, looking at you and looking to the side to see which ones you like best.

  • Personality: Check the photo you choose is how you most like to see your pet, does the picture make you smile, do they look their happy, cheeky selves? I draw what I see so I will use the photo you choose.

If your pet is sadly no longer with us, do get in touch and we can look through the pictures you have to create a portrait that can give you a memory to cherish.

Testimonials

'Kathy created the most amazingly beautiful drawing of my Mums late cat, Blackjack who died last year. I wanted to gift a special picture of him to my Mum as she misses him dearly.

The likeness and detail in the drawing is nothing short of incredible. I am so happy that i commissioned Kathy for this. She is very talented and her communication throughout the process was both reassuring and professional. My Mum now has a truly stunning artwork of Blackjack that she can treasure always. Thank you Kathy.' - Kelly Woodbridge
